Historic Hallstatt

Historic Hallstatt
Experience the beauty that is Austria with your experienced guides that includes a bus trip to the Salzkammergut region plus a boat ride on Lake Hallstatt and a funicular ride up to "Skywalk" in Salzbergbahn.
Travel from Vienna to Gmunden, home of the beautiful Gmundner ceramics, where your first highlight awaits you located on a tiny island in the Traunsee Lake, the idyllic Orth Castle. A short stop provides an excellent opportunity to take pictures of the beautiful castle and the impressive mountain ranges that surround it. The castle Orth was completely renovated in 2004-2005 and now houses the museum ORTH in the town.
Continue on to Hallstatt, with pastel-colored houses that cast shimmering reflections onto the glassy waters of the lake and with towering mountains on all sides, Hallstatt's beauty alone would be enough to guarantee it fame. A historic town that has been photographed a million times, and even replicated, it is nestled between the lake and the mountainside and will charm you with its narrow lanes and unique wooden buildings. On a city walk you will learn about the 7000-year history of Hallstatt, the mighty salt caves that were the foundation of the region's wealth, and the tragedies it has seen. One of the highlights of our Hallstatt tour is, without doubt, the ossuary, where hand-painted skulls recall a nearly forgotten tradition. A short boat tour will give you a wonderful view of Hallstatt from the lake, after which you have some free time for lunch (at your expense) or some more sightseeing.
Continue to the Salzbergbahn and the funicular that will take you up to "Skywalk," a viewing platform, where impressive views of the lake and town await you. Hovering almost a quarter mile above the roofs of Hallstatt, this unique platform offers panoramic views over Lake Hallstatt and the impressive mountain scenery.
You will begin to make your way back to Vienna and stop at Bad Ischl, the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph and his family. Explore the park grounds that surround the imperial Kaiservilla and follow in the footsteps of the emperor as you learn about this magnificent building.
Your bus will then take you back to Vienna to end this memorable day of sightseeing in this spectacular country.
